Eumaeus was getting breakfast ready in his hut.
“Meanwhile Ulysses and the swineherd had lit a fire in the hut and were were getting breakfast ready at daybreak, for they had sent the men out with the pigs. When Telemachus came up, the dogs did not bark but fawned upon him, so Ulysses, hearing the sound of feet and noticing that the dogs did not bark, said to Eumaeus: ”
Ulysses was getting breakfast ready in Eumaeus’s hut.
“Meanwhile Ulysses and the swineherd had lit a fire in the hut and were were getting breakfast ready at daybreak, for they had sent the men out with the pigs. When Telemachus came up, the dogs did not bark but fawned upon him, so Ulysses, hearing the sound of feet and noticing that the dogs did not bark, said to Eumaeus: ”
Eumaeus’s hounds greet Telemachus by fawning rather than barking.
“When Telemachus came up, the dogs did not bark but fawned upon him”
Eumaeus’s hut contains the fire used to prepare breakfast at daybreak.
“lit a fire in the hut and were were getting breakfast ready at daybreak”
The loyal swineherd prepares breakfast with Ulysses at daybreak.

Eumaeus’s men are sent out with the pigs at daybreak.
“they had sent the men out with the pigs”
Ulysses helps light a fire and prepare breakfast at daybreak.
“Meanwhile Ulysses and the swineherd had lit a fire in the hut and were were getting breakfast ready at daybreak”
At daybreak Ulysses and the swineherd prepare breakfast after sending the men out with the pigs; when Telemachus arrives and the dogs fawn rather than bark, Ulysses notices the footsteps and begins speaking to Eumaeus.
